Unveiling Our Latest Upgrades: The Future of Tactical Training at Broadmead Range

At Broadmead Range, our commitment is to provide the most realistic, effective, and safe training environments for operators. We believe that constant evolution is key to maintaining excellence. So our team has been hard at work over the summer, implementing a series of significant additions and enhancements across the facility.

These upgrades are designed to increase the scope, realism, and repeatability of training scenarios.

Precision in Motion: The New Rolling Car Mk2

Training for engagements with moving vehicles requires precision and consistency. Our new Rolling Car Mk2 system is ideal for honing this critical skill.

The vehicle is mounted on a permanent ramp system with a new release mechanism, allowing us to roll it at a consistent and verifiable speed of exactly 20mph. This removes guesswork and ensures every training evolution is repeatable and realistic.

Key features include:

  • Adjustable Ramp Position: To add another layer of complexity, the ramp position can be adjusted, allowing for variations in the vehicle’s final speed to suit different training objectives.
  • Elevated Firing Position: We now offer a dedicated elevated firing position that provides a 60m vertical and 250m diagonal line of sight to both fixed and moving target areas. This setup provides ideal conditions for advanced marksmanship training, simulating engagements from over-watch positions or multi-storey buildings.

Mastering Tactical Entry: The Bespoke Breaching Rig.

Effective tactical entry requires repeated, hands-on practice. Our new, custom-built Breaching Rig is a durable and versatile training solution designed for safe and frequent use in non-explosive entry scenarios.

This modular system allows teams to build muscle memory and refine their techniques without the cost and logistical challenges of using live locations. Its features include:

  • Multiple Configurations: Its numerous doors and hallways allow for several different configurations.
  • Realistic Scenarios: This modularity prevents training predictability, allowing instructors to simulate a wide range of environments, from simple room entries to complex corridor clearances.

Enhanced Security & Capability: Upgraded Ammunition Storage

Safety and security are paramount in our operations. We have invested in new, highly secure ammunition storage solutions. This upgrade not only enhances our security protocols but also provides greater flexibility, allowing us to safely house a wider variety of ammunition natures. This means we can better support the diverse and specialised training requirements of the units that use our range.

Expanding Demolition Expertise: The Refurbished Cutting Bay

Operators engaged in railway demolition training

Our Cutting Bay has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment, significantly enhancing its capabilities. These improvements allow for a broader range of demolition activities to be conducted safely and effectively. Trainees will benefit from access to improved facilities, enabling more comprehensive and realistic practice of essential demolition and cutting techniques.

New Heights in Versatility: Additional Rigging and Rope Work Anchors

To support teams specialising in vertical access and assault, the team has installed additional, strategically placed anchor points on the main slab. This enhancement provides greater scope for complex rigging and rope work, facilitating more advanced training scenarios and further increasing the versatility of the range.
