DemiMod™ is a lightweight, explosively driven water disruptor for defeating small to medium-sized IEDs, deployable by hand or mounted on an ROV. Using sheet explosive or detonating cord as the propellant and water as the projectile, it delivers disruption equivalent to barrelled water disruptors at a fraction of the weight, with none of the recoil.   Proven against difficult targets: DemiMod™ strips concrete cladding from suspect devices, has successfully disrupted IEDs concealed in animal carcasses, and doubles as an irritant injector for breaching teams, delivering CS or pepper through a window or door.   More cutting, penetrating projectile than QMod™ or MajorMod™, in a package half the length of MiniMod™

0.5kg filled (0.2kg empty), light enough for any ROV or manual approach

Disrupts targets up to 30 litres, including steel fire extinguishers and barrels with a heavy load

No metal components, so minimal fragment projection, with water tamping that suppresses flash and shockwave

Modular by design: join modules side-by-side or end-to-end to match the target

Explosive Load and Performance

Each module includes two containers: a tamper and a projectile, which fit together, sandwiching the explosive charge. Endcaps hold the elements together and allow separate modules to be joined side-by-side or end-to-end according to the size and shape of the target.

Deployment to Target

Deployable by hand or ROV, a single module can disrupt a small wooden, plastic, or metal box with a volume of up to 30 litres.
DemiMod™ is effective at removing concrete cladding from suspected IEDs, which include projectiles cast in concrete, and it has successfully disrupted IEDs placed inside animal carcasses, which, because of their composition, are difficult to disrupt.
With a heavy explosive load, DemiMod™ can disrupt IEDs in steel fire extinguishers or barrels. Breaching operators can also use it as an irritant injector by placing the charge against a window or door and adding CS or pepper to the liquid within the charge.

Safety

The charges have been constructed with no metal components, ensuring minimal projection of dangerous fragments. Water surrounds the explosive, providing tamping and imparting a higher proportion of the explosive energy to the jet. The water tamping also suppresses the flash of the explosive and reduces the shockwave generated by the charge, which is much safer than the uncontrolled recoil of heavy disruptors.
