Demolitions and sabotage training develops the skills to apply explosives with precision to achieve specific effects, from cutting structural targets to disrupting enemy capabilities and infrastructure.
Alford Training delivers these disciplines to military organisations across NATO and partner nations, from combat engineering foundations to specialist sabotage planning.
Every programme is shaped by a Training Needs Analysis (TNA), so the content, duration, and entry standards reflect your unit’s role, theatre, and existing competencies. Courses align with UK and NATO Standard Operating Procedures and are delivered on live-fire ranges with realistic target sets.
Explosive Demolitions

Our demolition programmes are delivered by operationally experienced specialists and equip participants with the explosive combat engineering skills required for modern conflicts. Course content spans explosive handling, explosive cutting, explosive ambush, and the use of commercial and improvised explosives and techniques, tailored to your unit’s role and theatre.
Training is conducted at live-fire facilities that support realistic target sets, from structural materials to infrastructure such as railway targets.
Sabotage
Our sabotage courses (previously delivered as Patrol Demolitions) cover the planning and execution of sabotage missions using the CARVER matrix (Criticality, Accessibility, Recuperability, Vulnerability, Effect and Recognisability), applying explosives to achieve a desired effect against enemy capability and infrastructure.
Training develops the demolition skills small teams need to operate independently in the field, challenging participants to think beyond standard solutions in realistic scenarios with the guidance and support of experienced instructors. Courses are designed for specialist military audiences and tailored through the TNA process.

How Our Training Is Delivered
TNA-led design
Content, duration, cohort size, and entry standards are tailored to your requirements through a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis, rather than fixed to a standard template.
Practical first
Classroom instruction is minimised in favour of realistic, instructor-led practical exercises on live-fire ranges with genuine target sets.
Honest assessment
Training is delivered outside the students’ normal chain of command, so weaknesses and training deficiencies are identified and addressed before they become operational risks.
Reduced administrative burden
We take on the range’s risk management and safety responsibilities, freeing your unit to focus entirely on training quality rather than on planning and running a demolitions range.
Where we train
At our live-fire explosive training facilities, Broadmead Range and Emborough Range. Training teams can also deploy overseas.
Your Instructors
Demolitions training is led by Chief Instructor Steve Hayward, a former Royal Marine with over 22 years of service, including as Chief Instructor at the Assault Engineer School. Sabotage courses are headed by Ryan Napier, a former British Army High-Threat Operator with 23 years of service and recent mission support experience in Ukraine.
What Our Customers Say
Frequently Asked Questions
What does explosive demolitions training cover?
Alford demolitions training covers explosive handling, explosive cutting, explosive ambush, and the use of commercial and improvised explosives and techniques, developed through practical exercises against realistic target sets on live-fire ranges. Course content is tailored to each unit’s role and theatre through a Training Needs Analysis.
What is sabotage training?
Sabotage training develops the planning and execution of missions that use explosives to disrupt enemy capability and infrastructure. Alford’s courses are built around the CARVER matrix, a target analysis framework assessing Criticality, Accessibility, Recuperability, Vulnerability, Effect and Recognisability, and develop the independent demolitions skills small teams need in the field.
How does this differ from breaching training?
Breaching focuses on gaining entry through barriers and structures as part of tactical operations, while demolitions and sabotage develop broader explosive combat engineering and effect-based skills. Alford delivers both, and many units combine them in a single tailored package. See our breaching training.
Who are these courses for?
Demolitions courses suit combat engineers, EOD and search squadrons and similar military units, while sabotage courses are designed for specialist military audiences. Entry standards are agreed through the TNA process.
Where is the training delivered?
At Alford’s UK live-fire training facilities, Broadmead Range and Emborough Range, with realistic demolition target sets. Training teams can also deploy overseas to the client’s location.
