Neptunex™ underwater linear cutting charges

Neptunex™ is a user-filled, aluminium-bodied linear cutting charge for severing mild steel at depths of at least 100m, in four sizes cutting 20mm to 65mm. Factory-sealed steel box-section liners guarantee the linear cutting jet forms in air at any depth, removing the need for field sealing by the operator. In opposing pairs, Neptunex severs more than twice the per-charge thickness, extending the largest size to 130mm or more of mild steel.   Attach with Velcro strips, Underwater SquidTape™, or strong magnets from the Alford accessories range. For bars and cables rather than plate, see Rebar Cutter™. For shallower or lighter underwater cutting, see Dioplex™. Covered in our Demolitions & Sabotage training.

Four sizes, one system. NX450 (20mm cut, 0.45kg/m), NX1200 (35mm, 1.2kg/m), NX3600 (45mm, 3.6kg/m), NX5600 (65mm, 5.6kg/m)

Factory-sealed liners. The steel box-section liner is sealed before delivery, not in the field, guaranteeing correct jet formation at extreme depth

Opposing pairs double the cut. Two charges facing each other sever more than twice the per-charge thickness, reaching 130mm+ of mild steel with the NX5600

Connects end-to-end in continuous cutting lengths, each charge initiatable at either or both ends via detonator or DCB held in the Split Screw

Equally effective on land. On detonation above water, the aluminium body reduces to lightweight, short-range fragments, making Neptunex a viable option for land demolition as well as diving operations

Explosive Load and Performance

The Neptunex™ family of charges can be used to sever mild steel—from 20mm to 65mm thick—at depths of at least 100m. Using opposing pairs of charges, you can sever more than twice this thickness. The relative efficiency significantly reduces the amount of explosive needed. Operators should carry out a test firing on any steel target material whose properties are not precisely known.
Each charge can be initiated at either end, or both ends, by inserting a detonator or detonating cord booster (DCB) held in place by the Split Screw.

Deployment to Target

While primarily designed for underwater use, Neptunex™ is also highly effective in land-based demolition. Detonation on land reduces the aluminium body and lid to tiny, lightweight fragments. These fragments do not travel far, so there is very little danger of fragmentation damage behind and to the side of the charges.
