MiniMod™ is a lightweight, explosively driven water disruptor for defeating small to medium-sized IEDs, using the same patented blade-jet technology as the MLVD™ and DemiMod™. Unlike point-focal water jets, MiniMod's blade-like projectile covers a wider strike area, making it effective against targets where the exact location of the initiation system is not known. At under 1kg loaded, it deploys by hand or by ROV.   Deploy by ROV, on a Rover Stand™, or by hand with Breacher's Tape™ or HydroTape™. Covered in our EOD, IEDD & Maritime EOD training.

Explosive Load and Performance

Each charge comprises two containers: a tamper and a projectile, which fit together to sandwich the explosive charge. End caps urge the two containers together. These end caps feature grooves to allow multiple charges to be joined side-by-side or end-to-end, allowing the size to be adjusted according to the target.
MiniMod produces a blade-like jet of water. As this is much wider than a point focal jet, it is more likely to strike and destroy the initiation system of a target whose location is not precisely known.

Deployment to Target

A remotely operated vehicle (ROV) can deploy and position MiniMod, or the charge can be placed by hand and attached to the target using Breacher’s Tape™ or Hydro Tape™ (depending upon the type of surface to which it is being affixed). MiniMod can also be deployed on a Rover Stand™, which stabilises the charge on four legs and allows it to be rotated, allowing the charge to be precisely directed at the target.

Safety

The charges have no metal components, ensuring minimal projection of dangerous fragments. Water surrounds the explosive, tamping and lowering the overpressure, causing a higher proportion of the explosive energy to be imparted to the target. The water also suppresses the explosive’s flash.

This disruption method is much less dangerous and damaging than barrel disruptors, which constitute heavy projectiles if allowed to recoil without control.

The explosive load is variable, but a typical load using 10g/m detonating cord as the propellant is 20g and using 2mm sheet explosive is 40g. US Patent 6,584,908 and others.
